Murcia nightclub fire: video of the first seconds of the fire inside Teatre
Video clips have started to appear in local media and online of the start of the nightclub fire in Murcia in the early hours of Sunday morning. This is the longest version I have come across so far, via local channel La7, and you can see how it all goes wrong inside Teatre, just before 6 a.m., in only about 30 seconds. People are dancing away and listening to the DJ and then they spot some flames up in the ceiling or rafter or upper structure area. There appear to be several flame focal points at the same time in this part of the club when people first see it, all in the upper areas. Some people try in vain to put the flames out with extinguishers, but it doesn’t work. The music and dancing does not stop immediately. Questions are being asked locally this week about where the fire really began and how it spread from one to the others, three in total (Teatre, La Fonda, Golden). Was it the decoration? A shared air-conditioning system? Flares or fireworks for entertainment inside one of the spaces? The investigation continues. It always shocks me how fast these things unfold, from normal to disaster in a matter of seconds or a couple of minutes.
