Spain Notes, Dec 26: The King's speech + far-right AI propaganda generation
1/ Copernicus has been posting some nice images of bits of Spain from space.
2/ The latest Spanish position on the US Prosperity Guardian mission in the Gulf of Aden against the Houthis in Yemen is still NOT taking part, not in Propserity Guardian, not via Operation Atlanta, not via EU. But Spain is suggesting OTHER EU countries do it.
3/ King Felipe gave his 2023 Christmas (Eve) speech, about the constitution.
4/ Vox and the PP thought it was great.
5/ Sumar was disappointed: “It is not polarisation, but the far-right against democracy”, said their spokeswoman. The King did not mention social rights, plurinationality or the children in Palestine.
6/ The PSOE was publicly onside with the King.
7/ 600,000 Spaniards gave up on the monarch this year and he recorded an almost record-low number of TV viewers.
8/ ABC notes the criticism of the King from the far-left: “It is especially significant that the head of state recalled that all Spaniards are the holders of national sovereignty, without exception, partiality or privileges”.
9/ El País: “Spain comes to the end of a 2023 that was full of political tension, with two elections putting political parties in the position of needing to resort to unprecedented deals to access regional and national power”.
10/ BBC: Spanish-Moroccan letters of forbidden love that were never received
11/ Politico: Judges get dragged into Spain’s toxic politics
10/ Chat GPT-4 can rewrite El País editorials on current news topics in the style of El Quijote in about 30 seconds.
11/ Vox related accounts did some Christmas national populist religious AI image generation: “Jesus in a Spanish flag” or even “Jesus surrounded by Spanish flags, Spanish soldiers and a cross” or whatever prompts they used.
12/ This account did a whole thread of ever-more Spanish nationalist Christmas themed AI images.
