The polls in Spain are still showing Feijóo (PP) out in front of Sánchez (PSOE), with both still rising but the PP perhaps slowing its growth after two or three weeks of confusion over regional govenrment deals with Vox.
Vox (far-right) and Sumar (far-left) are locked in a fight for third place. Abascal's party has now consistently dropped off its 15% peg. The latest GAD3 poll out today has them down to 11.6%. Vox is railing this weekend against the riots and immigration in France.
Abascal has used the riots to compare Macron’s France and Sánchez’s Spain to Hungary and Poland: "In Poland and Hungary, they can walk around with no problems because they guard against who can come in, and in Poland and Hungary women and homosexuals are respected but some poeple have decided to import a type of immigration that degrades women and that thinks that homosexuals should be hung from a crane”.
Díaz's new coalition has not yet managed to recover from the Podemos disappointment at the local elections in May. Sumar is celebrating LGBT pride this weekend.
"Today is not just any pride day", said Díaz: "because Popular Party and Vox governments, the far-right in our country, want us to go back to the times of black and white, the times when there was hatred and when there was a lot of fear”.
If we look at the poll numbers averaged out and added together for left and right blocks, we get the following picture. Both have risen slightly since April/May, the left block because of the appearance of Sumar and the right block with the energy of the local and regional election results.
There are three weeks left until general election day. How much will the vote shift in 21 days and how close will the race be?
When is the rhetoric going to concentrate on issues that are fundamental to the prosperity of Spanish residents? These side shows seem to me to indicate that there is a dearth of politicians who understand how Spain's standing depends on a healthly, invigorating and competitive economy. Just headline grabbers with worn out topics of yesterday.
Wait, I'm confused! I thought denigrating uppity women and hanging LGBT folk from cranes was VOX policy? So... are they complaining about it now? Or just complaining about unwanted competition in the denigrating-women-and-hanging-the gays demographic? 🤔
